FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cape Town Disabled Open 2025 celebrates inclusivity and ability in golf

Hosted by the City of Cape Town | 16–18 November 2025 | King David Mowbray Golf Club

Cape Town, South Africa —

As part of Disability Awareness Month, which runs from 3 November to 3 December, the City of Cape Town will once again host one of South Africa’s premier events in golf for people with disabilities. The 2025 Cape Town Disabled Open will be played over 36 holes at King David Mowbray Golf Club on 16–17 November 2025.

Presented by the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA), the championship forms part of the All Abilities Golf Tour (AAGT) and brings together golfers who show that ability always finds a way. There is a strong field, including leading South African golfers with disabilities and a solid international line-up. Players will compete across various divisions: Physically Disabled Gross, Physically Disabled Nett, Physically Disabled Stableford, Deaf Gross, Deaf Stableford, and Leading Female.

The field includes defending champions Daniël Slabbert, Morne Els, Roux Steenkamp, Zubernathi Kroti and Yolande Magatye, two-time winner David Watts, and many well-ranked golfers on the World Rankings for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD). The international line-up features Issa Nlareb from Cameroon, James Hourigan from Ireland, Jimmy Semenye from Kenya, and Malcolm Thompson from Wales, giving the event a strong global presence.

New faces this year include Larian Malgas and André van der Westhuizen, amputee golfers from George. The field also features several graduates of SADGA’s First Swing Program, highlighting how young players introduced to golf at school level are now progressing into national competition.

The field represents a wide range of abilities and experiences. Some golfers were born with their impairments, while others have adapted to life after illness or injury. Competitors include players who are amputees, visually impaired, deaf, or have muscular or skeletal impairments, each showing in their own way how golf can be played and enjoyed by anyone.

On Tuesday, 18 November, the week concludes with an Interschools Adaptive Golf Competition, where children with disabilities from schools in Cape Town and beyond will represent their schools in a series of fun, modified golf challenges. It’s one of the most uplifting days on the SADGA calendar, giving young players the chance to compete for the trophy while learning from some of South Africa’s leading golfers with disabilities. The day captures the spirit of inclusion at its best, with children leaving proud, inspired, and smiling from ear to ear.

“The City of Cape Town has played a crucial role in growing golf for people with disabilities,” says Lily Reich, Operations Manager of SADGA. “Their support gives our players the chance to compete, inspires children to take up the game, and helps us show what inclusion in sport really looks like.”

This year marks the fourth time the City of Cape Town has supported the Cape Town Disabled Open, reaffirming its commitment to making sport accessible to everyone. The City’s continued support gives golfers from across South Africa and abroad the chance to compete at a world-class event and helps raise awareness of the sport’s growing impact in the region.

“Sports is about inclusion and ensuring that all are provided an opportunity to participate in the recreational activity they love,” says JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security. “The Cape Town Disabled Open provides a platform for golfers with disabilities to showcase their talent. The City of Cape Town’s partnership with the South African Disabled Golf Association goes many years having previously supported the Cape Town edition of the SA Disabled Golf Open. It is more than just a golf tournament but a stage where SADGA raises awareness in support of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for people living with physical and cognitive disabilities. As the City we are honoured to be part of a platform that seeks to empower people living with disabilities.”

Hosting the event in Cape Town also gives Western Cape golfers the opportunity to compete in a world-ranking tournament close to home. It offers local spectators, schools, and community groups the chance to see adaptive golf in action and be part of an event that celebrates ability, determination, and community spirit.

The Cape Town Disabled Open hosted by the City of Cape Town continues to inspire players, families, and communities each year, showing that golf truly is a game for everyone.

This event also marks the final opportunity of the season to earn World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD) points, as well as All Abilities Golf Tour (AAGT) Order of Merit points.

Nomads Golf Club of South Africa and Hollywoodbets drive the growth of golf for people with disabilities at the 2025 South African G4D Open at The Wanderers

Nomads Golf Club of South Africa and Hollywoodbets drive the growth of golf for people with disabilities at the 2025 South African G4D Open at The Wanderers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Johannesburg, South Africa —

Golf for people with disabilities takes centre stage this October when The Wanderers Golf Club hosts the South African G4D Open, a three-day championship supported by Nomads Golf Club of South Africa, Hollywoodbets, and the National Lotteries Commission.

The event, part of the All Abilities Golf Tour (AAGT), will feature a refreshed logo that highlights the support of Nomads Golf Club of South Africa and Hollywoodbets for this year’s tournament. It is a visible symbol of their shared commitment to growing inclusive golf in South Africa. Their support has helped transform competitive golf for people with disabilities from a four-event national series into a fully-fledged tour hosting approximately ten tournaments a year, attracting international players and world ranking points.

For Nomads Golf Club of South Africa, the partnership builds on their Furtherance of Golf mission that has spanned more than 60 years, opening doors for golfers with disabilities to compete at premier venues and experience the same standard of professionalism found on mainstream tours.

As a Proudly South African business, Hollywoodbets embodies local pride by investing in communities and driving social upliftment through sport. Their ongoing commitment to inclusion is reflected in supporting golfers with disabilities, helping them access greater opportunities and visibility within the game, while championing South African talent and values on every level.

The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has also played a vital role in making this event possible through its ongoing financial support of SADGA. Funding from the NLC helps sustain the All Abilities Golf Tour and its broader mission of creating opportunities for people with disabilities to experience the game of golf, from grassroots participation to elite competition.

SADGA Operations Manager, Lily Reich, said this support has changed what the AAGT can achieve. “Nomads, Hollywoodbets and NLC have made this possible,” she said. “Their support allows us to not only put up international-standard tournaments, but more of them, many at courses our players only dream of playing.”

When play begins from 20 to 22 October 2025, The Wanderers will welcome some of the world’s leading golfers with disabilities, including Spanish G4D standout Juan Postigo and Ireland’s Ian St John, who competes using a Paragolfer, a specialised cart that allows players who cannot walk to stand and swing.

South Africa’s field of players includes some familiar and accomplished names from the All Abilities Golf Tour. David Watts, the current Order of Merit leader, and Daniël Slabbert, a multiple national champion, will be joined by Charlene Pienaar, South Africa’s leading blind female golfer, Roux Steenkamp, a one-armed competitor with multiple AAGT Stableford titles, and Emil Maehler, SADGA’s Disability Awareness Ambassador.

The field spans a wide range of physical disabilities, with players competing in Gross, Net and Stableford divisions and from varying tees based on handicap and skill. This ensures fair competition throughout the tournament. As the Tour continues to grow, so does the level of talent, with new players joining stronger fields each year.

The Wanderers Golf Club, a Johannesburg classic, provides a fitting stage for this year’s tournament. Its tree-lined fairways and quick greens sit against the backdrop of South Africa’s home of cricket, creating a course that challenges even the most experienced players. With a proud tradition of championship golf, The Wanderers remains one of the country’s great parkland courses and the perfect venue for a tournament that continues to push inclusive golf forward.

Nomads Golf Club of South Africa, Hollywoodbets and the National Lotteries Commission continue to drive golf for people with disabilities forward across South Africa. Their support has extended the AAGT’s reach to more courses, more players and broader audiences.

Spectators are welcome, with free entry across all three days. A SuperSport highlight feature airing after the event will share the stories and competition with audiences across South Africa and the continent.
