At SADGA, we believe golf is for everyone. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned player, there’s always a place for you in the game. That’s where coaches like Carlo Kok come in, guiding golfers with disabilities every step of the way.
From Grass to Green
Golf is a journey, and for players like Grezine Kiewets, Andre van der Westhuizen, and Larian Malgas, each round brings them closer to their goals. Their stories showcase how golf opens up opportunities for growth, connection, and achievement.
Carlo Kok, an AAA PGA Golf Professional who coaches golfers with disabilities in the Southern Cape, has been instrumental in guiding these players. Recently, he introduced them to the course for their first 9-hole round:
• Grezine Kiewets, a double amputee, mastering control and strategy on the course.
• Andre van der Westhuizen, a leg amputee, building confidence and consistency with every round.
• Larian Malgas, a double leg amputee, new to the game but already showing natural ability and focus.
In early December 2024, Carlo worked with the golfers on course etiquette and pace of play during their 9-hole game. While they took their time, respecting the club’s rules was key, and all three enjoyed the experience. For Larian, this was his first time on a golf course, and his enthusiasm was clear. With more practice, Larian’s game will only improve.
Carlo shared some valuable feedback after the session:
• Grezine Kiewets has shown great control over her swing and a strong understanding of course management.
• Andre van der Westhuizen is demonstrating solid accuracy, and his confidence on the course continues to grow.
• Larian Malgas, though still a beginner, is progressing quickly, displaying focus and a natural swing. Carlo believes that with consistent practice, Larian’s skills will continue to develop.
With the support of George Golf Club, where these golfers can work toward obtaining official handicaps, Carlo is helping ensure that they have every opportunity to thrive in the sport. Their journey highlights the dedication and effort required to take the next steps in the game and prepares them for upcoming All Abilities Golf Tour events.
Carlo’s coaching approach goes beyond just teaching technique. He fosters a supportive environment where golfers feel encouraged to have fun while also striving to compete at higher levels. With the backing of George Golf Club, Carlo is helping ensure golfers with disabilities have every opportunity to thrive.
We’re excited to see these golfers hit the fairways at All Abilities Golf Tour (AAGT) events in the coming months. It’s incredible to witness their hard work come to life, and we’re proud to watch them grow and shine.
A big thank you to Carlo for his dedication and passion in coaching these golfers with disabilities. His mentorship and the support of the George Golf Club community are opening doors and creating a space where every golfer, regardless of ability, can experience the joy and growth golf has to offer.
