Johannesburg, South Africa. April 2019. Keen to recognize and reward local photographic talent, Canon South Africa, as part of its sponsorship of the 2019 Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open, is calling on photographers to capture moments at the tournament. Those interested will stand a chance of winning prizes from Canon worth approximately R 19 000.00

“The upcoming Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open promises an inspiring show of exceptional talent, perseverance, courage and determination. Canon South Africa invites photographers to be there to capture the moments as some of the world’s best golfers with disabilities compete for top accolades,” says Dana Eitzen, Corporate and Marketing Communications Executive at Canon SA.

Professional photographers can submit up to ten photos taken at the 2019 Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open which takes place from 13 to 15 May 2019 at the Magalies Park Golf Club. The photos must feature a disabled golfer in action at the tournament, with no major editing done to them. HDR will be permitted. Photos must be submitted by 20 May 2019 to lily@sadga.co.za. The winner will be announced at the end of May. The prize package includes a Canon Pro 100 printer and an EF 70 – 200 mm f 4.0 L USM lens.  Entries will be evaluated by a judging panel comprising representatives from Canon South Africa, the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) and VWSA.

For 21 years, the tournament has helped to unite, inspire and acknowledge golfers with disabilities. This will be Canon South Africa’s third year as the title sponsor of the tournament which is organised annually by the South African Disabled Golf Association SADGA). This international amateur event incorporates golfers with varying disabilities, with divisions for leg amputees, arm amputees, deaf golfers, the visually impaired and Les Autres (such as limb deformities, permanent movement disorders or cerebral palsy).

Amongst the internationals that have entered are Mike Browne from the United Kingdom; Graeme Mazur and Johnny Rhea, both from the United Kingdom. Female players who have entered include Vernita Wirth and Charlene Pienaar, a blind lady golfer.

Four up and coming rookies from SADGA’s First Swing Programme, which teaches the game of golf to young people with disabilities, will also be hitting the course at Magalies Park in May.
