The SADGA ran and All Abilities Caddie Course at Magalies Park this week to prepare the caddies for the Canon South Africa SA Disabled Golf Open 2018
The 14 caddies will be working for the SADGA throughout the tournament as caddies for some of the Juniors and Blind golfers as well as in the eventing department.
The course consisted of explanations on what we do and what to expect from the tournament. Explaining to them the different disabilities and the modifications of the rules for the disabled. We taught them the Do’s and Don’ts of how to communicate with the Deaf as well respecting our and our sponsors brand.
(We also pre-warned them of some the disabled golfers wicked sense of humour)
Carol Lourens from SAIL , who has been running the tournament for the past 10 years, spoke on how the tournament will work and what the different eventing jobs will be which will be required by them.
They were then taken out onto the golf course where each caddie got to be a caddie and a disabled golfer when they played 5 holes of golf with a disability using hunting ear plugs to make them deaf, blindfolds to make them blind and standing on one leg or using one arm.
The caddies were awarded All Abilities Caddie Certificates as well as cap clips and a gift from the tournament sponsor, Canon.
Thanks to George, Jack and his team at Pica Pau for the lunch.
