This week, the SADGA Performance Spotlight is trained on Jan Potgieter.
Les Autres golfer Potgieter enjoyed an exceptionally consistent 2021. He began the year by earning selection for Team North in the SADGA Provincial Challenge. Though the event didn’t pan out as he and the team had hoped, his presence on the team is commendable in itself.
It was during the Canon Open Series though that Potgieter underlined his quality. He recorded three top-10 finishes during the Open Series highlighted by a share of second-place in the Canon Port Elizabeth Disabled Open.
These results, combined with steady golf for much of the year saw Potgieter finish runner-up in the Race To The Challenge Cup.
Given all that Jan achieved on the course in 2021, he was fittingly named Gauteng North Disabled Golfer of The Year.
Upon receiving the award, Potgieter shared some words of wisdom and thanked the SADGA, golf clubs and golf unions the country over for the role they play within South African disabled golf.
“Winning isn’t everything – the more we play and compete, the better we get and you’ve created that environment for us and I’m sure that all the disabled golfers in South Africa join me in thanking and applauding you for that,” remarked Potgieter.
“The support we get from you all, our family and friends together with perseverance is a winning recipe.”
Besides being a great competitor, Jan is a fantastic servant of the SADGA. Together he and Johan Du Plooy collate the SADGA Race To The Challenge Cup Rankings each month, check scorecards after Regional Days and much more behind the scenes work.
Thank you for your contribution to the SADGA Jan and we wish you lots of birdies and very few bogeys in 2022.
