Many thanks to Johan Du Plooy for this report on the Otway Hayes Senior Classic which took place at Zwartkop Country Club on the 14th and 15th of November.
The Otway Hayes Senior Classic was a huge success. Not only was it well run, the sun was also shining on a course in a very good condition. For us as disabled players it was a first, rubbing shoulders with our fellow able-bodied players, who kicked our buds in the gross competition.
We did however hold our own in the nett competition. Ray Graaff had the best nett of 66 on day one, with Leon Strydom having the best nett of 62 on day two, which was the best net for the weekend. Ray played exceptionally well and was tied for 4th place in the nett competition.
SADGA Patron Dale Hayes said that the performances of the SADGA golfers not only inspired him but amazed the other competitors too.
“It was inspirational to watch the way they played the game and how much fun and enjoyment they got out of the game,” said Hayes.
“To a man the able-bodied golfers were amazed at what they saw from the disabled golfers so that was fantastic.”
We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and many thanks to the Zwartkop team for allowing us to compete in this prestigious event.
