Here is Andrew’s story…..
I was born with cerebral palsy, which affects my lower body, balance and mobility. I Started playing golf at the age of 8 and by age 11 was introduced to SADGA by Ian Gielink and SADGA legend and close friend, NicoWentzel. I have been the youngest member of SADGA since its inception in 2000, where I won the Junior division at Umhlali Country Club.
I went on to win the junior divisions in 2001,2003, coming 2nd in 2002. In 2005 I competed at the European Disabled Golf Champs held at Rapallo GC in Portofino, Italy alongside SADGA greats Chris Wood and Trevor Reich, where I won my division by 6 shots. I was part of the winning interprovincial ROC teams in 2011 (Zwartkop) and 2014 (Zebula ).
I achieved my 2nd hole in one of my golfing career at my home Course , The Royal Durban Golf Club, where I also work in the administration department. This will be my 17th SA Open and every year it gets more and more special, seeing old faces and making new friends. This tournament holds a special place in my heart.
Now at 29, balancing work and being a full time dad to my 3 year old son Jordan, my expectations would be to play to the best of my ability and make my family proud. ” I would like to wish all my fellow competitors well for this year’s Open as the field is extremely strong. A week of good golf and special memories! 🙂
The SADGA team look forward to once again having Andrew at the Canon SA Disabled Golf Open.
