Magatye, Roetz Join SADGA In Southern Cape

The disabled golf contingent within the Southern Cape continues to grow with the recent addition of two very exciting prospects in Yolandi Magatye and Elmar Roetz.
 
Magatye – who lost her leg last year – has recently begun receiving lessons from SADGA coach Carlo Kok. The pair have been hard at work on the different facets of the game – working on Yolandi’s swing and her short-game and have also spent time on the course applying what Magatye has learnt.
 
An employee at the Fancourt Golf Academy, the leg-amputee has the benefit of having been a golfer prior to the loss of her leg. With the help of Fancourt and Carlo, Magatye is now affiliated to the club and she has recently received her handicap card.
 
Kok is hoping that if Magatye continues to progress steadily that she’ll participate in the Canon Cape Town Disabled Open – the second event in the Canon Open Series – in September.
 
Should Kok and Magatye achieve their goal, Yolandi’s presence in the field would be one of the most heartwarming stories of the Open Series. 
 
Kok has also recently linked up with a golfer he coached some 10 years ago – Elmar Roetz. Roetz is once again living in George which has provided the perfect opportunity for the pair to begin working together again. 
 
Roetz is eager to begin playing golf regularly and Kok says his potential is evident in the fact that despite being out of the game for a while, he is still capable of hitting his 7-iron 130m!
 
Kok and Roetz have now set their sights on Elmar joining a golf club in the near future and receiving a handicap.
 
SADGA Executive Director Craig Moorgas praised Kok’s work in the Southern Cape.
