TSHWANE, 7 May 2015 – The rising stars of the South African Disabled Golf Association’s First Swing Programme excelled in the recent Nedbank SA Disabled Golf Open, played at Zwartkop Country Club in May.
Seventeen-year-old Charl Theron from Western Province lived up to his star billing with a fifth place finish in the Overall Stroke Play Championship for 0-18 handicaps, second in the Les Autres Division and first in the Under-23 Division.
Fellow Province player, 16-year-old Ignation Douries took 14th overall, and the 13-handicaper finished fourth in the Les Autres and second in the Under-23 Divisions.
Free State player Enrique van Wyk from Free State took the podium in the 54-hole Overall Stableford Championship (19-36 handicaps), while Raylen de Wee won the Arm-Division in the 19-36 handicap division and claimed the runner-up spot overall.
Charles Williams from Boland also impressed in the Deaf Championship for 0-18 handicaps. The Boland golfer, who plays off an 18, took seventh overall.
“We are very excited by the results our FSP players produced this year and extremely thankful to Nedbank for making their participation a possibility,” said SADGA CEO, Eugene Vorster.
“It is critically important to the development of these players that they are afforded the opportunity to test themselves at this level.
“Thanks to Nedbank backing our flagship event for the last 10 years, we are able to bring our top FSP players to the championship and afford them the chance to play on the big stage.”
