Date confirmed for 15th annual Canon SA Pro Golf Series

Johannesburg, South Africa. March 2015 – The date for Canon South Africa’s 15th annual Pro Golf Series has been confirmed for Friday, 5 June 2015 at the Centurion Golf Estate. For the first time this year, the event is aligned with South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) – which Canon SA proudly helps sponsor. One of the world’s greatest disabled golfers, Manuel de Los Santos, will compete in the tournament, and young SADGA players will play a part in the day’s proceedings.

There are three legendary professional golfers from South Africa and Great Britain also expected to join a field of enthusiastic South African players and Canon customers for the spirited event. Among the pros that are confirmed to play in this year’s tournament are Brandon Stone and Holly Clyburn.

“We are excited to announce the date of the 2015 Canon SA Pro Golf Series. We are honoured to welcome Eugene Voster, Reinard Schuhknecht, Daniel Slabbert and Ben Van Zyl to the field this year. Despite his disabilities, he has achieved tremendous feats and is a true inspiration to all people with disabilities to pursue their aspirations to play sport,” says Dana Eitzen, Corporate Communications and Marketing Executive at Canon SA.

The children participating in the day’s proceedings are all part of SADGA’s First Swing initiative which focuses on inculcating a passion for sport and golf skills in young school children who have disabilities. Aged between 11 and 16,  the youngsters’ will get to meet the golfers and assist with handing out goodie bags and other duties under the guidance of Eugene Vorster, the CEO and founder of SADGA.

Canon SA’s involvement with SADGA stems back almost to its inception in 2002 when it sponsored a cash amount for one of their golf days. Since then, the relationship has grown and blossomed. In 2014, much of Canon SA’s support for SADGA was focused on the First Swing Programme. Including the young players in the 2015 Canon SA Pro Golf Series is part of Canon SA’s commitment to the initiative.

“Playing golf known to have positive rehabilitation and emotional benefits for people with disabilities. We are proud to support SADGA’s First Swing Programme and to have some of its enthusiastic players assisting us at our 2015 golf day,” says Eitzen.

She concludes saying that SADGA’s presence at the golf day adds a special element to the annual tournament, which provides a rare platform for Canon SA to interact with its valued customers and partners from around the world.
